So i finished reading a book, "The Marketplace" by Laura Antoniou,
which i can describe in no other way than as pure porn.
The back cover describes it as "erotic fiction - bdsm".

There were very few scenes in the book which were really
interesting for me, or which turned me on.
Those scenes which did affect me were mainly the ones between
Chris and Grendel, and not surprisingly (for me), most of these
didn't involve sex. Towards the end of the book, additional things
about Chris are revealed, which show that he has even more in
common with me than I had at first thought... quite a surprise.

But the rest of the book, all the fucking and cock-sucking and
oral sex... Blah. Rather uninteresting and quite unappealing.

Even the BDSM parts weren't much to my tastes.
What I call BDSM is rather different than the type of "slavery",
the willing submissiveness, depicted in this book.
The idea of being a submissive and obedient slave whose goal is
to please their master in all ways doesn't appeal to me at all.

Definitely not the type of lovey-dovey stuff in this book -
"thank you so much, master",
"anything you wish, mistress",
"being allowed to sleep at the foot of your bed is such an honor".
Gratefully kissing the cane after having been beaten with it.
Egads.

I fantasize about slavery sometimes, but not like that.
Not where the slave willingly acts subordinately to their master.
More in terms of an unwilling and forced slavery, where there is a
demonstrated ability of the master to overpower, control, and
punish the slave. And to keep them under their power.
A battle of wills, of determinations, of strengths...

The master can be cruel and selfish, without regard to the slave's
feelings. A story like that may suffice to turn me on for the
short term.

But for a story or fantasy to really affect me in the long run,
the "master" has to really care about the "slave" as well...
there has to be mutual respect/admiration/love...
even if it isn't at first obvious.
The master and slave are in reality equal partners.
Where perhaps, the slave's true desire for being dominated,
and the master's for dominating, are even understood by both
partners, and acted upon accordingly. More like a dom/sub type thing.

I definitely don't have a slave's mentality in the general BDSM
sense. A rebellious sub or a bottom perhaps, but not a slave.

But anyway, with regards to definitions...
perhaps when I term my interests as BDSM, it gives the wrong impression?
Considering that this book, which I certainly agree is BDSM-related,
doesn't interest me much?

It's just that the term "BDSM" can encompass so many things,
so many possibilities,
so many different definitions...

Sort of like saying "I like sports",
when that could actually mean that one likes boxing,
or gymnastics, or bicycling.
Very different things all under the same general term.
And even within those categories, there can be very different styles,
such as rhythmic gymastics vs. acrobatics
and mountain biking vs. cross-country bicycling.
Just because someone enjoys one of them
doesn't mean they enjoy the others.

What I call BDSM is even often found in mainstream books and movies...
Although there, those situations aren't usually combined with sex.
But that's even better, since graphic sex scenes still generally
turn me off... like in this book.

Porn is supposed to be arousing.
Yet the stuff that arouses me often doesn't deal with sex,
and the stuff that does deal with sex usually doesn't arouse me.

Sort of like...
seeing food being prepared may whet one's appetite
much more so than watching people eating.

Watching people gorging themselves upon food,
and hearing them burp,
and seeing them lick the grease off their lips,
may even ruin one's appetite.

Especially if they are eating a food which isn't to one's own tastes.
